The Dream

Johnny stood alone, with nothing but the sound of eerie whispers echoing around him. He was alone, but somehow Johnny felt as though he was being watched - as if many eyes were judging his existence. These stares made his skin crawl, and as they intensified he cringed with a forming paranoia and uncertainty. He fidgeted in an attempt to shake off his discontent, but his limbs refused to budge.

His paranoia increased.

Voices that began as whispers amplified and filled his ears - harsh words of discrimination and spite. In a fit, Johnny forced his eyes open.

The voices stopped, and for a moment silence reigned supreme. But soon they returned.

And then he saw them.

Johnny's friends stood before him, still and waiting. But for what? He didn't know. A thick fog swirled around them, including himself, and it ghosted over their feet as if ready to devour everyone whole. Meanwhile, the whispers continued, hushed and secretive like before. It came from the group, but no mouth moved. How could that be? he thought.

He was definitely going crazy.

Perhaps it was their eyes that he felt. Testing the void, Johnny moved his legs, and was relieved to find out he had regained mobility. But even as he moved forward and pushed past each person, no one threw even a passing glance - not even Tank, who usually went out of his way to sneer at him. Everyone's gaze was fixed forward, like mannequins in a life-sized doll house.

"Johnny."

Unsurprisingly, it was Ophelia who was the first to speak. Johnny startled, causing her to giggle. She was smiling as always, a beautiful, mystical smile that Johnny loved and woke up to every morning. "Why so scared? You look like you've seen a ghost."

"I may as well have. This place gives me the creeps, especially with no one moving."

"No one? Johnny, you must be seeing things... It's just me."

Ophelia was right. Johnny looked around, and realized that everyone had, indeed, disappeared. The voices were gone as well. Breathing a sigh of relief, Johnny gathered Ophelia into his arms and kissed her.

She was always there for Johnny, especially through rough times. From the beginning of high school to now, Ophelia had helped soothe his struggles, including being green. So Johnny knew it must had been Ophelia's presence who chased the eyes and whispers away. Ophelia was the one who gave Johnny peace of mind. She had that kind of effect on those whom she met.

Like Ripp.

What started off as a shy, hesitant young teen had eventually become the town Don Lothario. To say that Ophelia caused this was an overstatement. But she did aid in helping the middle Grunt emerge from his shell. And that was all it took for Ripp to evolve into an outgoing, somewhat charming college kid.

Johnny lost himself in his thoughts. He didn't notice the way Ophelia's waist began to enlarge and become firmer to the touch. The silky texture of her blouse transformed into soft, smooth cotton, and the hands around Johnny's shoulders felt more masculine than what he was used to. Suddenly, a deeper voice brought Johnny back to his senses.

"Hi, John."

Johnny's eyes widened in surprise, and he pulled away.

"Ripp-- ?!"

"Thinking about me, Johnny?" asked Ripp.

He smiled at Johnny just as Ophelia did, but Ripp's grin was different. Much more different. Ripp's smile was playful, mischievous, and - oh, so dangerous to the hearts of unsuspecting ladies. Practically every girl in Strangetown had a taste of those lips. Despite how charming they looked, Johnny knew better.

He motioned to speak, but Ripp gave Johnny no time, and pulled him into a tight embrace. Pressing their foreheads together, Ripp inhaled deeply.

"Of course you were. You always do."

Johnny chewed his lip in search of the right words as his best friend hugged him close. It was another good deed Ophelia had done, introducing him to Ripp. Their meeting was a rocky start, but the boys became fast friends. However, what neither Johnny nor Ophelia counted on was Ripp pursuing the alien.

It had begun with subtle hints - glances, expressions - before evolving to more obvious hints - gestures like attempts at hand-holding. "Sorry, Ripp. I'm not interested," Johnny had told him flatly. But Ripp persisted. Interestingly enough, Ripp never pushed further than hand grabs and extra long hugs; words of seduction were never spoken and kisses were never given while Ripp romanticized Johnny. But one day Ripp, as usual, laced his fingers with Johnny's.

And Johnny didn't pull away.

He squeezed Ripp's hand.

After that, it was all one big mess. For Johnny, anyway.

Johnny finally allowed himself to relax, and he leaned into Ripp much to his friend's delight. It was what Ripp wanted, Johnny knew. He also knew that these feelings for Ripp were on a whole different spectrum than his feelings for Ophelia - how his body reacted, how his heartbeat quickened, how his mind warped.

He embraced Ripp, savoring the warmth and the way their bodies fit almost perfectly. But suddenly, Johnny felt the tug of being pulled away. The whispers returned full force, loud and howling like the wind. And as he was wrenched from Ripp's arms, his surroundings dissolved into the ever-increasing fog. Ripp, too, was fading away. Before his world darkened, Johnny caught one last glimpse of Ripp smiling.

"Don't fall in love so easily, John."

Notes: This is my first short story. I'd love to hear feedback, please and thank you!

So, so happy to see a new TS2 story! I love your writing, it really captures the action taking place along with the pictures (your pictures are wonderful too, love the close up shots with Johnny!), every moment throughout this chapter was clear without any confusion. I'm not a Strangetown buff by any means but even I understood everything going on perfectly, I hope to read more from you. :)

Agreed with eastvale on all counts.

The stark, empty backgrounds were an unusual choice, and I really liked that. And the actual writing was lovely, and a little mysterious (which I'm always down for). Too bad it's only a one shot, but I hope you intend to write more - especially stories involving the residents of Strangetown and Pleasantview.

I'm relieved to know you like it. :> When we discussed the sneak peek I hadn't even thought it looked mysterious, and I wasn't sure if you liked drama and romance lol. I definitely plan on writing more, especially after my first set of exams. I haven't played Pleasantview in a long time though, but I'll give them a try too.

Thank you! > u

Drama and romance aren't my favorites (my heart belongs to horror), but I like most sim stories regardless of the genre. Especially well-written ones that treat the characters as actual reasonable and believable humans (even the aliens) instead of bizarre caricatures. I also don't typically consider Ripp as anything other than a strict lady's man, but something about this, I don't know, it works for me (and I am clearly important /lies). Even though it didn't go super in depth, it just didn't strike me as slash for the sake of slash - I especially liked the bit about Johnny not pulling away when Ripp laced their fingers together. I'd be interested in reading more about them and their relationship, if you decide to expand upon it in future installments.

I'm excited to hear that you're going to write more! I can't wait to see what else you do with other pre-mades.

Thank you! Johnny's one of my favorites, although lately he's been bouncing between second and third rank lol. You'll see more of him in my writing for sure.

We're in the same boat - Johnny was for a long time my number 1...then I started working on (Un)Pleasantview and suddenly I came to adore Grim Reaper and Lolita Goth too. The three of them swap and change rank depending on my mood. Hehe.

I can't wait to see more of your work. You write beautifully.

Oh, how unloved he must feel lol. I've grown to really enjoy the Grim Reaper too after reading Fortune & Romance. And I can't wait to see what you have in store for us. o uo

D'aww, thanks. <3 I just wish writing didn't take so long.

Lol, yes, poor Johnny! Grim Reaper's character in Fortune & Romance is brilliant! :)

I am so excited to write Grim Reaper's story in (Un)Pleasantview, but I can't do anything with a broken graphics card. It is very frustrating. I at least can do the written part of chapters, but not the pictures. And it's the pictures that has me so excited! I really hope I can get this thing repaired soon.

You're welcome! :) I get the frustration with writing taking up time. I often end up staying awake late into the morning to finish writing, because I seem to have the most inspiration those hours. Lol.

What happened to your graphics card, anyway? Did it just up and fry one day? D:

And when you do get your computer fixed, will you be taking pictures and then posting the chapters immediately, or will you plan out multiple chapters at a time for consisting updates? I'm just really excited to know when the first chapter will be out. x]

That's what happened when I wrote The Dream, lol. I just said, "fuck class", stayed up until 6am working on it, then slept through my accounting classes. I'm a bad student!

My graphics card actually still works, but the fan doesn't. If I use GPU accelerating software, like games, then my graphics card will heat up and this can fry the card and other computer parts. So no Simming till the fan gets working. D: I've asked my IT go-to-guy if I could replace the fan, but he suggested a new card instead. So now I have to wait for a new card...and I have no clue when it will arrive.

I am very desperate to get chapter 1 out, so I'll probably take the pictures and immediately upload it. But in the meantime, I might work on the next chapters since I'm still waiting for my comp to be repaired. I've tried installing The Sims 2 on my laptop, but the hard drive is tiny and my CC folder is too big for the poor thing. Lol.

Woo for staying up late (early?) and playing Sims...or writing using Sims!

If your tech guy says to get a new card, does that mean your current one is incompatible with games such as the Sims? Idk if it worked fine before, but if everything ran smoothly you'd think it'd be the fan or the desktop itself. o no But I'm no computer tech so … lol.

Ooh lol, Sims on the laptop is brutal. I've tried it before and my computer just can't handle it. I felt like I needed some high tech shit which, at the time, I didn't have enough money for.

But desperate times call for desperate measures!

I don't know why he said I should get a new card. I personally think it's a good card - Sims 2 looks and runs smoothly. Sims 3 not so much, but I think that's because my processor is not the best of the best. I think he probably suggested a new card because it will be easier to replace the whole thing than part of it, since graphics cards usually comes with the fan/cooling system attached. I think. Or at least mine did.

Sims on the laptop is brutal, I agree. My Sims 3 game is not great and I play on medium settings. :( I might tweak those later to see what the laptop can handle. I was never brave enough to test the high settings.

My mother just told me that the first thing she's going to buy me when she has the money is a gaming computer. She's getting as fed up as I am with this. Lol.

To be honest, the quote from 'Sleepwalking' by BMTH got me here c: But i wasn't disappointed in what I found. This is really really well written!!! :O
Is there a back story to this as well, I'm assuming (from the comments) that Johnny has been around in stories before, and stuff has happened before this? Because I want to know more :o
